Year 6 Transition

Moving to secondary school can be a scary prospect for both parents/carers and for your children, but it doesn’t have to be. For the students in Y6 joining us September 2023, we are already working hard behind the scenes to allay all fears. If your child has been given a place with us for September, the transition team will be speaking to your child’s primary school so that we can find out all about them before they come to us. We will also be visiting the children at their primary school so they can ask questions and put their mind at rest. Students with SEN and those coming to us from out of area will also be given the opportunity for additional visits.

This year, we will be holding two transition days 27th and 28th June 2023. During these days, the children will enjoy a series of taster lessons and meet a lot of the staff who will become their regular teachers in September. It is also a fantastic opportunity for them to start making new friends. We are expecting nearly 200 students to join us in our new Y7 and so it’s only natural that there will be nerves about what to expect.

Prior to your child starting with us, you should receive a number of emails with links to google forms to complete and information about our policies and uniform. We will use the email address you put on your secondary school application form submitted to Rotherham LA in October. If you are concerned that we may not have the correct email address on file for you, please contact us on transition@swintonacademy.org

On Tuesday 27th June 2023 we would also like to invite parents/carers and the Y6 children to join us for an information evening. Our uniform suppliers will be onsite so that students can try on blazers and PE tops. Items can then also be purchased. More information about starting times will be sent directly to parents/carers nearer the time.
