Application process

If you wish to apply for a place at Swinton Post 16 in September 2024, either speak to one of the team in school or email the Post 16 team at the following address: post16@swintonacademy.org. You can download our post 16 prospectus at the bottom of the page along with a copy of our revised entry criteria for 2024.

Step 1 - Open Evening (Monday 13 November)

In November, we hold an Open evening  for potential post 16 students and their parents. You will be able to find out more about post 16 at Swinton and visit teaching specialists to discover more about each of the different subjects.

Step 2 - Application form

Following this, you will submit an online application form. The link to this is in the yellow sidebar on the right

On this form, you will be asked which subjects you would prefer to study. This is merely to give us a rough idea of numbers. You can change your mind about choices at any point up to enrolling in September.

Step 3 - Meeting

After submitting an application, you will be invited to attend a meeting with member of the Post 16 team. These meetings will take place in the Spring term, and we will contact you to let you know dates and times. The purpose of this meeting is to get to know you a little more and fine tune your application. We will discuss your future aspirations and consider if your chosen subjects are the best pathway to achieve that. We also need to consider whether you will meet the entry criteria for the subjects chosen and, if not, discuss an alternative pathway for you.

Step 4 - Offer

Following your meeting, you will receive an acceptance letter in March/April. This is an offer of a place to study at Swinton and follow your selected pathway. This is a conditional offer subject to you meeting the entry requirements for post 16 study and for your chosen courses on GCSE results day.

In June, after you have finished your exams, we will invite you in for an Induction morning. This will give you a taste of what post 16 life is like before September. You will meet the post 16 team and take part in three brief taster lessons in the subjects you have chosen.

Step 5 - GCSE results and Enrolment

When you receive your examination results, the post 16 team will be there on the day for you to enrol. You will sit down for a brief five-minute meeting with one of the team. We will check if you have met the entry requirements and confirm or make adjustments to your choice of courses. At that point, you are a member of our post 16 community and lessons start a week later.
